The Jorōgumo is a female creature of Japanese folklore. She is always first seen as a beautiful maiden with an inviting presence and often sweet music. But when someone comes too close she will reveal herself to be a spider setting a trap. The large spider will devour its prey without leaving much of it behind.
These creatures of Aztec lore are called Cihuateteo, spirits of women who died during child birth. They’re said to haunt crossroads hoping to snatch the young children they were never privileged to have.
